Opening Ceremony Healthy Market Panakkukang, Makassar

On June 25, 2010, the Mayor of Makassar, Ir. H. Ilham Arief Siradjuddin officially opened CHF’s second Healthy Market in Panakkukang Traditional Wet Market, Makassar which is the second and final pilot under the Healthy Market Program funded by the Australian Government (AUSAID) in collaboration with Government of Makassar City (Pemkot Makassar).

The opening ceremony took place in front of the market & was attended by Dr, Idris Patarai, Director of City Planning Commission, Drs. Djamaludin Yunus MM. Director of Market Authority (PD Pasar), Program Director of CHF International Makassar, Charles Kushner, First Secretary - HIV and Emerging Infectious Diseases Program of AusAID, Gerard Cheong, and heads of other stakeholder agencies in Makassar Municipality.

In a ceremony held on March 4th 2010, Makassar city’s secretary, H.M. Anis Kama laid the first stone to initiate construction of the second AUSAID funded Healthy Market located within the Panakkukang traditional wet market in Makassar. The ceremony was also attended by director of the city’s planning board, director of markets, heads of related municipal agencies, CHF staff as well as local vendors.

The first of two Healthy Markets fully funded under the Australian government’s South Sulawesi Healthy Markets program was handed over to PD Pasar Makassar Raya on January 27, 2010 in an inauguration ceremony attended by the Mayor of Makassar, Mr.Ilham Arief Siradjuddin & Mrs Helen McFarlane from AusAID.

Market Clean Up Day and Community Event in Makassar

On August 9 2009, the AusAid funded South Sulawesi Healthy Market Program (HMP) in Makassar conducted a Market Clean Up Day at Sambung Jawa. Both the market community (vendors, market management, and PD Pasar) and HMP counterparts (Bappeda, Dinkes, BPOM, DKKP, Disperindag) participated in organizing the event.

SS-HMP Incentive Program Launch in Makassar

The AusAID funded Health Markets Program (HMP) launched its Incentive Fund on July 28 2009 in Makassar. The Incentive Fund consists of three elements – testing and monitoring for the presence of Avian Influenza (AI) and E.Coli at Sambung Jawa and Panakkukang, a market focused opportunity for managers to access funds to strengthen bio security at markets throughout Makassar and a vendor focused incentive fund that will support behavior change amongst vendors of all markets in Makassar.
