President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono is scheduled to dedicate Politeknik Aceh on Monday (28 July). Located in Pango Raya, Ulee Kareng subdistrict, Banda Aceh, The building is 98% completed as of yesterday and is currently in the finishing phase.
The mayor of Banda Aceh –Mawardy Nurdin-- confirmed this to Serambi yesterday. He stated that the municipality has had a meeting with Coordinating Minister of politics, law and human rights; Minister of Public Works; and Minister of Internal Affairs on Thursday (17 July).
Mawardy added,” The ministers informed me that the President agreed to dedicate Politeknik Aceh along with some other facilities donated by BRR in Aceh. However, we’re still waiting to receive one formal letter to confirm this. We will have it possibly by Thursday”.
The President’s visit to Aceh is to coincide with the opening of the 22nd [annual?] conference of the Indonesian Journalists Association (PWI) here in Banda Aceh. Head of PWI Aceh office, Dahlan TH, has arranged for the president’s appointments in Banda Aceh. Dedication of some other donated facilities will probably be centered at Politeknik Aceh. This means there will be signing of plaques of other facilities (during the event at the Politeknik).
CHF construction manager, Bambang Siswanto, explained that the construction –started in 27 October 2007—is now in the finishing phase with only some minor detail works to complete. The 3-floor main building construction project donated by Chevron valued at US$4,800,000.
Two weeks ago Saifuddin Abdullah –Chevron Project Manager for Politeknik Aceh—stated that his colleagues are working hard to complete the construction of Politeknik Aceh in time for this academic year’s student’s registration period so that Politeknik Aceh can start its academic activities for this year.
As previously mentioned in the news, Politeknik Aceh is a 3-year diploma institute. Four departments of studies will be opened at the campus: Electronic Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechatronics, and Accountings. These four studies are practically oriented to the industries’ need for human resources competency.
