CHF International Completes its USAID Funded Housing in a Handover Ceremony Held in Aceh Jaya PDF Print E-mail
Thursday, 28 August 2008
On 28 August 2008, CHF International, along with the communities of Lhok Buya, Kreung Sabee, Padang Datar and Kabong celebrated the completion of 144 houses.
The handover was noteworthy, as it marks the end of CHF International’s partnership with USAID in the provision of housing in response to the 2004 Asian Tsunami Disaster, which included the construction of 758 houses in Aceh Besar and Aceh Jaya. AIG Disaster Relief and the Indonesian Government tsunami reconstruction agency (BRR) were also integral partners in the handover. AIG funded 17 houses built in Padang Datar and BRR contributed in-kind metal frames and roofing materials towards the construction of 75 houses in Lhok Buya, houses that were built according to a BRR design.

The houses provided were divided between 69 units designed by CHF International with a 36m2 main living area and the BRR style house provided in Lhok Buya, also 36m2. The overall allotment brings the total number of houses built by CHF International in Aceh to 1,326 and CHF expects the overall number of houses built to reach as many as 1,800 by 2009. Other funding partners that have worked or are working with CHF International include Oxfam Great Britain, World Vision International, and CARE International.
